What is disease?

What is disease?

Disease is every abnormal situation in body or mental which can cause uncomfortable situation or organ disorder or cause worries of the person or people around him. Sometime disease called for all injuries, Disabilities, disorders, symptoms, deviant behaviors, or unusual modes of performance or behavior which can be visible or not.

I should mention that usually the terms Disease, illness, ill-health used instead of each other, but they mean different.


Disease: It means pathologic changes or abnormal body changes which can be recognized, but might have no specific sign.

Illness: It is usually used to refer to a person who is in poor state of health which can be caused by any mean of uncomfortably like stress or tiredness or that person just feel not good!  Illness is not a disease and the reason is not pathologic changes in the body.

Ill-health: It is a condition which symptom of disease impairment of function is present but not as serious as an illness. Usually ill-health does not need special medical attention.

Classification of diseases:

Communicable diseases:
This group consist of large number of diseases which the Pathogens (infectious agent) can be bacteria, virus, prion, fungus or protozoans etc. parasitism are not communicable diseases but they are mostly related to this group. Parasitism agents are usually protozoans or worms. Some example of communicable diseases are: influenza, malaria Cholera, typhoid, dysentery, measles, and chicken pox, plague, and tuberculosis, sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS, SARS and Hepatitis.

Genetic Diseases:
Genetic Diseases are different group of diseases which caused by existing or non-existing of a specific gen or gens on the human genomes (DNA) as an example I can name Hemophilia, anemia, thalassemia, Down syndrome, Color blindness or Nyctalopia.

Toxic Disorders:
This diseases cause by existing toxic either in environment or chemical agents. For example medicine poisoning, food poisoning, snake bites, bee stings, etc.

Malnutrition:
These diseases are caused by lake of nutrition in people daily diet. Beriberi, Scurvy, anemia by lake of iron, osteoporosis are the examples of this group.

Autoimmune disease:
This is caused by malfunctioning the body immune system which eventually the system will mistakenly target and attack body tissue. Scleroderma and sclerosis are two examples of this type.

Mental disorder:
This kind of disease are mainly caused by the person over thinking or beliefs like several mental disorders, Schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, abnormal swallowing, psychosis, postpartum depression, and anxiety.

Ailments of unknown etiology:
There are several diseases which the origin are still undiscovered. Chronic fatigue syndrome, Alzheimer are two examples.

Other:

Injuries, handicapped, malformed birth, stroke, eye defects (myopia and hyperopia eyes, cataracts), arthritis are not classified on above groups.
